Work-related stress is now the number one cause of employee sickness absence. There are areas of work design, for example demands and control, which can affect stress levels. Employers should manage these properly.

We have redesigned and updated HSE’s work-related stress and mental health web pages.

Our new design will make it easier for users to find information more quickly, including guidance on mental health issues.

Suicide at work is not RIDDOR reportable but our new guidance on suicide prevention encourages employers to:

  • manage the risk
  • support workers who may be suicidal
  • support workers after an incident

Visit our website for guidance on managing work-related stress and supporting good mental health in the workplace.
